Josephine Hubbard, better know as Jan Hubbard to her colleagues and friends, has worn many hats over the years, which include manager, consultant, wife, mother, friend and now includes the exciting new role as Entrepreneur.
After attending Southern Nevada Community College, Jan has sought her place in the work force in industries such as Real Estate, Mortgage Lending, Bankruptcy Law and Retail Management. She found her calling in 2006 when she was brought on board the (IFL) International Fight League, a mixed martial arts promoter and television production company. It wasn't long before Jan found her niche in the industry and began working as the IFL's Medical and Licensing Director.
Jan Hubbard began by building crucial relationships with many of the State Athletic Commissions, nationally acclaimed MMA and Boxing trainers, top promoters and fighters. She made sure every fighter on the bout card was physically and medically cleared to compete. Jan Hubbard reviewed all submitted medical documentation for any abnormal results and if so, would immediately direct the athlete to the corresponding specialist. The safety of the athlete was Jan Hubbard's number one priority and second was presenting all documentation to the State Athletic Commissions, she evaluated the material to ensure it passed IFL standards, since IFL standards were stricter than most Commission's required in certain states. In order to get athletes cleared for an event, Jan Hubbard has done everything from managing and making appointments for athletes to working with the commissions to get their suspensions lifted to even the translating of international medical documents since Jan Hubbard was the only multi-lingual employee at the IFL. She assisted in all foreign documents pertaining to medicals. At times, Jan Hubbard made special arrangements for international athletes to come to the U.S. sooner than planned in order to comply with the Commission's medical requirements. Jan Hubbard has also made numerous crucial trips to doctors' offices during event week with the athletes, sometimes less than 48 hours before a show to get tests taken care of. Jan Hubbard has built a solid reputation for organizing and presenting all necessary data to have the fighters cleared and licensed with the commissions, under her guidance and care.
During pre-fight physicals and weigh-ins, Jan Hubbard was present at all times while they were undergoing all state requirements before an event, to ensure there were no medical issues that needed to be resolved. During the event, if athletes were injured, Jan Hubbard accompanied them along with the emergency crew to the hospital in making sure they were receiving proper care and all billing and insurance information were disclosed. Once the fighters were discharged from the hospital, Jan Hubbard would obtain all follow up procedures and all appointments were made once the fighter arrived home. In the weeks after the event, Jan Hubbard would make sure they followed all of the hospital discharge procedures and checked on their progress to see if there was any other medical assistance needed.
In 2007, the IFL and other organizations' recognized Jan Hubbard's hard work and dedication to the fighters. With increased responsibilities within the company, she began handling medical billing and insurance claims. Realizing the vast amounts of money the IFL was spending on medical claims; Jan Hubbard took on the responsibility and began negotiating terms with every doctor or hospital the IFL was billed from.
With all her efforts in reducing medical expenses, Jan Hubbard secured her position in the IFL at that point. She was on top of all of the fighters making sure they reported all their injuries in a timely manner, which facilitated a smooth transition from event to event throughout the year. Jan Hubbard finally realized her hard word had paid off when the American Association of Professional Ringside Physicians invited her and a colleague, as guest speakers at their 2007 medical conference in Puerto Rico.
With her dedication to helping fighters, her tact and negotiating skills within the medical field and current relationships with many of the State Athletic Commissions, it was her dream to form a company to bring all State Athletic Commissions, doctors and fighters together under one roof, which has never been attempted. Her idea has now become what is known today as MedLic, LLC. Together with her business partner, Rebecca Johnson, they are providing a long awaited and needed service to the MMA and Boxing Industry with the first up and running, online medical records database.
This perfectly aged and intellectual woman was born in New York City in 1969 and has lived in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada since 1972.
